I'm Emilie Dack. I love to do field research and enjoy working with users to discover their needs and wants, so as to design solutions that fit into their daily lives or helps to increase quality of life.
I want to help people. My skills are listening, analysing and interpreting people's needs and wishes, and sketching. I like to investigate and problem-solve. I connect the dots between many different perspectives and look at long-term gains. I want to make things that have a positive impact on users' lives.
In my spare time, I like to draw, write stories and do sports: running, Krav Maga and swimming. I studied Film and Literature at Leiden University before moving on to Communication & Multimedia Design at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.

I work on different products within Exact for our mid-market customers, specifically the mobile apps and desktop products. My work consists of designing screens, creating interactive prototypes and conducting usability tests with our customers, to validate our designs and better understand user needs. I also give UX Design Thinking workshops as part of the onboarding process in the company.

The Patching Zone is an organisation that connects middle school students with professionals from various fields, to experiment with news technologies and methods. As workshop facilitator, I organised and conducted classes on Arduino, Internet of Things and Design thinking. I also got in touch with external parties to set up new projects for the following academic year.
2015 - 2016
My graduation project focused on creating a social and circular green initiative, designing an app to facilitate this. Rotterdam residents were encouraged to separate their organic waste, to be collected as part of an unemployment plan. In doing so, residents received points and prizes. The waste would be shared among a network of municipal gardens, to be turned to compost.

Bouman GGZ is a mental healthcare institution specialised in psychiatry and addiction. During my internship, I designed an app to for people suffering from chronic sleeping disorders, working closely with a psychiatrist to translate a word-heavy paper-based course to a more dynamic interactive product. I also worked on an app to help people deal with stress and anxiety.
I love stories. I want to use my skills to help people lead happier lives. To get there, I listen, ask questions, observe, and learn from all the stories I hear.
This is a showcase of some of my favourite stories.
